Laser beams up jobs at print firm

A North East print technology company is expanding and creating new jobs at it Northumberland base. The Alternative Supply Company (ASC) is aiming to expand operations with the purchase of a state of the art laser engraver.

Using their current in-house technology with the technical capabilities of the laser engraver will enable the company to offer a ‘fade’ within the print - a reportedly unique position with regard to print.

Regional Development Agency One NorthEast has invested £50,000 in the project, which will help to create four new jobs at ASC, as well as safeguarding a further six.

One NorthEast Director of Business and Industry, Ian Williams, said: “I am pleased that the Agency has been able to support this project, which is creating new jobs and safeguarding existing ones. The acquisition of a laser engraver will enable the company to become more competitive within the market place and realise an increase in productivity.”

ASC was established in 2001 to develop new print solutions directly onto food containers. This was in response to a gap in the market identified by Elaine Hall and Gerard Connolly, the founders and directors of the company. The business has grown significantly and now also supplies other ranges of containers and offers high speed labelling services.

Elaine and Gerard said: “we are extremely grateful for the advice and support that has been provided to ASC over the years. The assistance has been extremely important to the development of our company and has been fundamental to our business growth.”
