Motor group bought by giant car dealer
Last week the Patterson Motor Group, which employs 370 people in the North East of England, was sold to Europe’s largest independent car dealer.
Arnold Clark Automobiles (ACA) has bought showrooms in Scotswood Road, Newcastle, Shiremoor and Hexham. It said there will be no redundancies and customers’ service plans will be honoured.
Managing Director Ashley Winter said: “The way Arnold Clark works on its customer and staff relationships is very similar to the way we have successfully operated for nearly 100 years. “Arnold Clark has an excellent reputation and the business will prosper in the North East.”
Sir Arnold Clark opened his first showroom in his home town of Glasgow in 1954. It is still a family business with many of Sir Arnold’s children holding positions within the company. Excellent customer service and superb value for money have been key to the continued growth of ACA throughout its 53 year history.
ACA currently employs over 8,000 people with 145 branches nationwide. A turnover of £2 billion placed Arnold Clark 11th in the Sunday Times KPMG Top Track 100 of the UK’s largest private companies.
Sir Arnold said: “Patterson Motor Group is a firm with a wonderful reputation and has many synergies with our own business. We are looking forward to using the vast amount of experience of both businesses to create a formidable player in the North East car market.”
