Enterprising North East women help their Jordanian counterparts to WIN in business
A group of Jordanian businesswomen and journalists are visiting the region this week to meet members of Women into the Network (WIN) and share the secrets of their business success.
The visit to the North East is part of an international project led by the British Council which tackles the issue of cultural and traditional stereotyping of women’s roles in the workplace and society.
Jordan is just one of several countries participating in the ‘Women, Work & Leadership project’, with others including Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian Territories, Syria and Tunisia.
Dinah Bennett, WIN programme director at Durham Business School, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming our Jordanian counterparts. The WIN model is becoming increasingly recognised internationally as the blueprint to promote networking and entrepreneurship between women in different professions. It aims to build a dialogue for exchanging and sharing experiences so that we can advance the international debate on the role of women in public life and bring about attitudinal change.”
The Jordanian visitors will visit female business representatives in the region from Young Enterprise North East, The bgroup, Newcastle Girls School, Ward Hadaway and Mechatronics. Female journalists from the United Arab Emirates-based TV station ‘Al Arabiya’ will be accompanying the group and report on the visit.
Yara Shahzadeh, Jordanian representative on the British Council, said: “The British Council aims for the Women, Work & Leadership project to build a mutual agenda which will start to bring together women to share their experiences and challenges in the workplace. Durham Business School’s WIN model successfully assists the integration of women entrepreneurs, both aspiring and practising into existing business networks in the North East and business women in other countries can benefit from its practices.”
