Training business takes a share of new expertise
A South Tyneside training company is benefiting from new sales and marketing knowledge, thanks to a new and innovative business mentoring programme in the borough.
PP Training, based in Jarrow, provides industrial learning and training programmes such as courses in fork lift operation, warehousing and health and safety. Managing director, Jo Ingham, has been running the company for just over six years, and was keen to move it on to the next level and felt she needed some help with sales and marketing.
Rather than employing an external marketing consultant, Jo signed up for Management Timeshare, a project run by South Tyneside Means Business. Management Timeshare provides companies with free support through one-to-one business coaching.
The project looks closely at a business and identifies the skills required to help it grow. An expert coach in that particular area is then teamed with the business to equip them with the skills and knowledge to carry on once the coaching has ended. Since participating in the Management Timeshare programme, Jo has generated new sales leads with existing clients and is also focusing on new business opportunities and tackling new markets.
PP Training was offered the opportunity to work with Dave McConachie and Michael McMeekin from KMJ Success, a company which specialises in developing professional sales skills within companies and individuals.
For Jo, who is usually used to delivering training and advice, it was a refreshing experience. She said of the project: “Sometimes when you’re deeply involved in the day-to-day running of the company, you don’t have the time or opportunity to look at it more closely, which is why Management Timeshare works really well. Dave and Michael helped me see things from a different perspective and help set challenges for growth. They were able to give me the tools I needed to develop a marketing strategy for PP Training and I now feel confident in managing the sales and marketing for the business.”
