The drugs do work (when you're ill)
With Simon Raybould of Curved Vision
I’ve just got over a cold. Now, I’m not one of those men who instantly claim they’ve got flu (or even funnier) ‘man-flu’ but it is putting me off my stride. The best thing for me to do, obviously, is to retire gracefully with a glass of whisky and take a bath before going to bed (can you all say ‘ahhhh’, please!). Unfortunately, I had to run one of our public presentation skills training days.
Now normally I would caution people against taking drugs and soldiering on, because all the drugs do is masking the problem so you don’t notice the damage you’re doing. In desperation, however, I spoke to a pharmacist for some help. There’s a ‘new generation’ of throat pastels which contain not only the usual anaesthetics and so on, but also an anti-inflammatory. (The one I’m using is called ‘Strefen’.)
I’m still not saying it’s a good idea but at least they’re good drugs – and got me through the day! In emergencies it might be worth a trip to your pharmacist.
As always, questions and comments to me at sme@curved-vision.co.uk
