Business guru scoops national award

A North East business consultant has achieved national recognition at an award ceremony in London this week. RTC North’s business consulting manager, James Thwaites, achieved the best overall mark in the Postgraduate Diploma in Market Research Case Study examination for 2007. He received his award at the Market Research Society’s (MRS) annual award ceremony held at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London.

Beating off competition from candidates from multinational agencies, James took the one-year course to top up his knowledge and make sure his clients are benefiting from the latest market research techniques.

The former chairman of the North East Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), James works for the business consulting division of RTC North in Sunderland - a management consulting service, specialising in aspects of strategic, international and innovation consultancy. He also lectures in strategic marketing for professional postgraduates at Gateshead College.

He has worked with over 120 organisations in 35 different industry sectors during the past six years and specialises in working in business-to-business, technical and international markets.

James said: “Considering the pedigree of the candidates studying for the qualification, it’s a real honour and I am delighted to have won this award. “The North East has traditionally suffered from a lack of business management and market research expertise and at RTC Business Consulting we are trying to provide North East clients with a real alternative to London based agencies.”
