New company aims to improve wellbeing of the workforce

A former Tyneside director turned executive coach has launched the region’s first yoga company aimed squarely at corporate directors and managers.

Executive Yoga is the brainchild of Alan Ross, who set up the business after 20 years leading a busy executive lifestyle himself and more recently, in his role as an executive coach, he has witnessed first hand the effect of today’s corporate culture on others.

The new company aims to address the underlying physical and mental strains that are now commonplace among senior company executives - with external and on-site classes as well as with corporate retreats.

Alan said: “The demands and pressures on today’s managers is greater than ever and we know from on-going workplace research that longer working hours are definitely here to stay. Yoga’s ability to tackle stress of the mind as well as the body is universally recognised and makes it one of the most effective antidotes to a demanding lifestyle.”

Growing numbers attending Alan’s recently set up early evening weekly class in Gateshead is testimony to the popularity of yoga as a relaxing release for local business folk.

One participant, Ian Young, Director of TDR in Gateshead, is a recent convert. He said: “I’ve been surprised at the difference yoga has made. I’ve felt the benefits long after the class has finished and I will definitely continue to attend in the future.”
