Cash boost for life-changing job courses
Workless people are to be given a helping hand into the world of work by a Sunderland City Council initiative. RBLI (Royal British Legion Industries) will be running the project, which has been funded by the council’s “make it work” initiative, itself part of the Northern Way worklessness pilot.
RBLI will be holding three-day training courses called “Ngage” at their offices in Sunderland to help people’s motivation, self esteem and hopefully help local unemployed people get into work.
Clare Wilkinson, Ngage Trainer for RBLI in the North East, said: “The Ngage courses will help people improve how they feel about themselves, look at their positive skills and maybe see if they can use these in employment. We also want to help them with IT skills, as well as showing how IT can help in their day-to-day lives, such as online shopping, job searching and finding practical solutions.”
The training courses will link with other networks and organisations including libraries, community outlets and organisations that specialise in helping people with multiple barriers to work. People on the courses will also receive help with writing CVs and will be given support with interviews.
Peter Chapman, assistant chief executive officer for Sunderland City Council, said: “The courses will take them along the path to success, and they will be supported by advisers who will help them every step of the way.”
The courses are aimed at people in Sunderland who have multiple barriers to work. For further information, visit www.rbli.co.uk.
