New route for business support

Two new recruits have been appointed to head-up a project which challenges the public and private sector to work together, in a move that could release £11.25m into the local economy.

Susan Young and Sinéad Moloney have been appointed to the roles of business development coordinator and business development officer at the Procurement Centre, a project aiming to make the most out of business opportunities arising from public sector expenditure in Wansbeck, Castle Morpeth and Blyth Valley. Working with Go Wansbeck, Northumberland County Council and the North East Chamber of Commerce, Susan and Sinéad will provide support and assistance to local businesses, enabling them to benefit from public sector opportunities.

Susan said: “We are looking forward to unlocking the potential for businesses and social enterprises across South East Northumberland, to win tenders and be considered for contracts by the public sector.”

Keith Raine, Go Wansbeck programme manager, said: “The Procurement Centre will play an important part in developing the growth of the local economy. “One of our principle aims is to encourage local people to grow businesses – in order for us to succeed in this we must support and encourage people to help them take advantage of new opportunities.”
