Businesses wanted for Flux 08
Two years ago, The Working Knowledge Group created university business competition Yomping the Nations (now branded as Flux). Working Knowledge are now looking for local businessmen and women who are able to give up some time on 28 February to take on the role of ‘expert’ in a cross between the Apprentice and Dragon’s Den.
This year the competition has been sponsored by Greggs and KPMG along with other regional sponsors. The Flux 08 North East Regional Final is being hosted by the University of Northumbria. During the regional final students will plan a business using a real business scenario given to them on the day and pitch their strategy to a panel of judges eight hours later.
Professor Huw Morris, Dean of Manchester Metropolitan University Business School, said: “The Working Knowledge Group has helped us to ensure that our students graduate with the confidence and skills needed to make a difference to the organisations they work for from day one. This competition gets young people used to the realities of business, understanding strategic objectives and realising the importance of being able to think and present on your feet as a team.”
Sir Robin Young - Former Permanent Secretary to the DTI, said: “It was really encouraging to find such enthusiastic and innovative approaches from such a wide variety of young people.”
If you would like to get involved The Working Knowledge Group is now gathering experts for this year’s North East Regional Final. If you are interested contact Tom Holden at tom.holden@twkg.net or call 0870 7201071 to find out more about volunteering as an expert.
