Firm in top 100 again
A North East employer has been listed in the rankings of the UK’s top firms for the fourth year running. Norcare, a Newcastle-based provider of supported housing, is celebrating being included in the Sunday Times ‘Best Companies to Work For’ list.
The organisation employs about 80 staff running projects in Northumberland, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Sunderland, Newcastle, Durham, Hartlepool and Darlington. Norcare improved on last year’s position of 78th in the rankings with a move up to 73rd in the list.
The listing comes after the company was awarded a two-star rating in what has been called the ‘workplace equivalent of Michelin star status’. Norcare achieved the same standard as leading multinationals including Deloitte, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Vodafone who were all placed in the same category in the Best Companies Guide 2008.
Bill Midgley, chairman of Norcare, said: “This award is a tremendous achievement for Norcare and reflects the value Norcare puts on its staff. Without the right staff we would be unable to fulfil our mission, which is to help those vulnerable people in the community who need our support. If our company did not have the right staff it would be those who are vulnerable who would pay the price. The staff are Norcare, and without their dedication we would cease to exist.”
To be included in the listing, companies are assessed according to a range of criteria from how long employees stay with the company, to what benefits they receive such as holiday and sick leave and flexi-working opportunities.
