Digital sector gears up for recruitment drive
A North East IT recruitment fair will be featuring national and international names among the recruiters hope to hire regional talent next week.
The ‘Jobs in Digital’ event, run by Sunderland-based Codeworks Connect, was launched last year in order to help its member companies recruit the most skilled students and graduates in the North East. This year British Airways’ IT team and leading videogames companies, including Midway, will be present.
More than 300 students and graduates attended 2007’s event hoping to land a top job with one of the exhibiting employers. This year, Codeworks Connect says it is opening up the fair to skilled professionals as well, after digital companies in the region expressed a desire to recruit skilled staff as well as those fresh out of university.
Sean Himmerick, studio head at Midway’s studio in NewcastleGateshead, said: “Midway is committed to growing its presence in the UK. The best way to achieve this is to invest in the upcoming graduates in England. With so many opportunities available to graduates within the North East area, Midway Newcastle is very excited to be a sponsor of the Connect recruitment fair. We look forward to opening up more possibilities for students as Midway’s development grows.”
The fair will also include three workshops - including one run by Channel 4’s talent-spotting division, 4Talent, at which Jo Taylor, the organisation’s manager, will give professionals advice on how they can take their career in the digital sector to the next level.
The event takes place on 5 March at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead. For more information visit www.codeworksconnect.net/recruitmentfair.
