Childline Emerald Ball nets £85k

The annual ChildLine fundraising ball has topped last year’s figures as organisers announce that the emerald-themed event raised £85,000 this year. The money will go into services to help vulnerable children and young people in the North East and Yorkshire.

The Emerald Ball took place in February at the Newcastle Gateshead Hilton, and the auction on the night raised over £37,000.

Items on offer at the auction included a Dolce and Gabbana dress worn by Kylie Minogue and a set of four boxing gloves worn by boxers Frank Bruno and Amir Khan. Four items donated by NSPCC/ChildLine Ambassador Alan Shearer made the charity £19,000.

Alan said: “The NSPCC and ChildLine are charities very close to my heart. I am really pleased that this year’s ChildLine Ball raised such a fantastic amount of money. “I believe that we can all do something to end cruelty to children, no matter how small an individual action, collectively we can make a difference.”

Dennis Clark, special events manager for the NSPCC in the North said: “The Emerald Ball has been a brilliant success. It was an eventful and fun packed night. I want to say a big thank you for everyone who attended and donated money with special thanks to our generous sponsors SFM and North East Property Buyers who upped the stakes to ensure the event was ‘a night to remember’.”
