Teesside artist branches out to Asia

A Middlesbrough-based artist is preparing for an international residency at a gallery in the Far East. Hannah Campion will begin a two-month residency at the Gallerie TAKSU in Kuala Lumpur in June which will culminate with solo exhibitions in Kuala Lumpur in August followed by Singapore and Langkawi, on the West coast of Malaysia.

Hannah has been taking part in the DigitalCity programme, which works with creative North East businesses to help them grow and develop, for the last four months and has recently secured BERR funding to help with her exhibition.

As part of the DigitalCity programme, Hannah is being mentored by photographer Keith Moss, fine art lecturer and Royal Academy graduate Lesley Hicks and by art historian, Josie Bland. Hannah is taking part in the DigitalCity programme to help her develop her business which also offers commissions and educational services.

Hannah said: “Thanks to DigitalCity I am receiving focused support which is completely tailored to my own fine art practice. I am receiving invaluable guidance from professionals working within the art world who are opening doors to new opportunities. I am very excited about heading to Kuala Lumpur in June where I will be able to build up my international artistic profile further.”

Scott Watson, Enterprise Co-ordinator for DigitalCity, said: “DigitalCity works with a host of creative businesses to help them expand but also to nurture North East talent. Hannah’s Middlesbrough-based company is now receiving international acclaim and is going from strength to strength which is exactly what DigitalCity strives to achieve.”
