The news: Good news for those concerned with online security; Channel 4 reports that Facebook are reviewing their privacy settings to allow users greater control over which of their friends can see their personal details. Although the business implications of this are not yet known, it is good to see social networks giving greater control to their users.

Story of the week: AOL appears to be on something of a spending spree. Not long after the search engine’s acquisition of social networking site Bebo, rumours of a £90 million bid for KickApps have been reported by Techcrunch. KickApps is a social network and widget creation tool and its purchase represents a good move by a company often regarded as in the shadows of Yahoo and Google.
