New initiative constructs connections

A new construction support group is set to launch this month in Newcastle. ‘Leaders Connect’ aims to address leadership issues by connecting the current and future generation of leaders with expert industry ‘gurus’.

Leaders Connect’s online service will provide industry knowledge and advice based on a combined 170 years of UK construction leadership experience. The official launch of the new construction concept is set to take place on 27 March at the Hilton Hotel overlooking the Tyne. Leaders Connect gurus are travelling from all over the UK to take part in the event and ‘Question Time’ style meeting.

Dave Stitt, Founder and Director of Leaders Connect, said: “We hear a lot about the construction skills shortage in the construction industry. However, the really big issue facing construction companies right now is the need for leadership skills. Over the last 30 years I have worked with a wide range of construction companies of all sizes - from regionally based firms such as Whelan - to national giants like Costain, and no matter what size or sector the firms operate in, the need for leadership skills is a common and increasing concern.

“We are confident Leaders Connect will go some way to support both ambitious leaders and those faced with the pressures and demands of responsible positions. Leaders Connect will help strengthen the direction, confidence and capability of leaders operating in the private and public sectors throughout the industry.”

Tony Whelan, Managing Director of Whelan, said: “I have worked with Dave Stitt closely for several years now and he has been a key player in our company development. He has an understanding of construction in the UK that is second to none and I believe Leaders Connect is exactly what is needed, and through time will prove a valuable resource for people like myself.”
