North East expertise at the top of the world

A North East company specialising in the development of audio equipment to meet the latest fire and safety regulations is literally at the top of the world.

Fire Safety telephones designed and built at Current Thinking’s Sunderland factory have been installed in the world’s tallest building, the 2,200 ft high Burj Dubai Tower. The company’s Managing Director and co-founder Anthony Smith will see the building for himself in a few days’ time when he attends an international exhibition.

The Dubai PALME exhibition is a Middle East showcase for the audio and lighting industries and Current Thinking will be displaying its range fire telephone, voice alarm and induction loop products for aiding people with hearing problems.

As well as the Burj Tower which will have 160 floors when it opens later this year, Current Thinking fire telephones are also in operation in over 50 other towers in Dubai. They are also used in the undersea Jumeria Road Tunnel linking the mainland to the massive Palm development which includes the world’s three largest artificial islands.

Anthony Smith said: “Dubai - together with the rest of the Middle East, India and China - is seeing massive developments and a huge demand for our equipment. “With our products now firmly established in some of the most impressive buildings in Dubai, the Palme exhibition provides us with a major opportunity to make further inroads into the international market, especially in those countries with rapidly-expanding economies.”
