In the news: Social networking site Facebook has launched Facebook Chat in the UK this week; an instant messaging service that allows users to chat in real time with their online friends. Facebook Chat is the latest in a long line of applications available to members of the site.

In the US, Marketing Charts reports that the video content on Barack Obama’s campaign site had over 150,000 more views than Hilary Clinton’s during the same period. Whilst not a direct indicator of popularity, it is interesting to note that Republican John McCain received only 38,000 views.

The Guardian reports that News Corp’s James Murdock has attacked the BBC, accusing them of limiting competition in the broadband TV market with its iPlayer service.

Microsoft have released their Citizen Service Platform (CSP); a tool to help governments interact with the public. The CSP application framework is currently being rolled out in London, Portugal and Denmark, and is thought to help streamline processes and save time and money.

Story of the week: The latest episode of the Microsoft - Yahoo soap opera sees the software giants face a nervous wait after Yahoo appeared to call their bluff by ignoring the passing of last weeks deadline for reviewing Microsoft’s latest bid. Microsoft must now decide whether or not to mount a hostile bid or risk missing out on adding to their portfolio.
