The Boat lives on
Despite the departure of the Tuxedo Princess from the banks of the Tyne this year, a North East company is stepping in to help people keep on celebrating on ‘The Boat’.
It might not be to everyone’s tastes, but partying on the River Tyne is a well-known Geordie tradition. Cruise company River Escapes are keen to keep the party going, and has launched its own floating nightclub for the 2008/09 season.
With the departure of the Tuxedo Princess planned for later this year party goers in the North East thought they could no longer celebrate onboard. However with almost 50,000 students living in the city and thousands of revellers visiting the quayside each weekend managers at the cruise company have decided to dedicate one of their vessels purely for the party market.
The first party night onboard the Latis will launch in May 2008 where organisers hope to have a high profile DJ as the star attraction.
David Fozard, River Escapes managing director said: “People disappointed at the departure of the Tuxedo Princess can now dance the night away onboard the Latis and Fortuna. Our new range of party nights will be a great addition to Newcastle quayside’s clubbing scene and it means that people can still party onboard a boat on the Tyne just like the good old days. We hope to become one of Tyneside’s best-known entertainment landmarks, just like ‘the boat’.
“Although we haven’t got the famous revolving dance floor, party goers can dance the night away on our top deck and we can actually take our party goers out to the mouth of the Tyne and back again.
“The launch of our student night in the summer which we hope to name ‘Escape’ should appeal to everyone who used to party on the Princess, now we are one of the only party cruise operators on the river so nights like these are very rare.”
