Awards seek region's top women entrepreneurs
The 2008 North East Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Awards, hosted by Women Into the Network (WIN), will be officially launched at an event to be held on Thursday 29 May at The Centre for Life in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Women and men from across the region are invited to attend, hear from last year’s winners and find out which categories are open for nomination. Now in their ninth year, the Awards recognise the contribution being made to the North East economy by women and are specifically targeted at women who have set up or taken over an independently owned business in the North East.
There are nine award categories on offer, including ‘The Susan Dobson Award for Entrepreneurship’, sponsored by the Susan Dobson Memorial Fund, Woman in Retail, sponsored by The Mailing House Group and Woman in Technology or Innovation, sponsored by The University of Teesside.
Lisa Vickers, WIN Events and Communications Manager, said: “The launch is the perfect platform for us to raise awareness of these important awards. It is a great opportunity for people to find out more about the process, be inspired by past winners and network with those across the business spectrum.
“As we enter our ninth year of the Awards, we continue to be astounded by the amount of talent here in the North East - and it’s our job to ensure this talent does not go unnoticed. The competition also highlights regional role models whom aspiring women entrepreneurs look to for encouragement and inspiration.”
Alastair MacColl, CEO of Business Link North East, said: “The North East is already a great place for women to start or grow a business. At BLNE we quite simply want to make our region the best place in Europe when it comes to producing female entrepreneurs and helping them to succeed. This event is a unique opportunity to recognise some of the fabulous woman entrepreneurs in our region and celebrate their achievements.”
