CBI chief celebrates Tees Valley growth

Richard Lambert, director-general of the CBI, visited the Tees Valley this week to assess how its businesses are coping with the current economic conditions. Mr Lambert visited a range of companies across the region, including Huntsman Tioxide and Sabic, and addressed business leaders at the CBI Tees Valley annual dinner on Wednesday evening.

In his speech Mr Lambert discussed the current challenges for businesses, the UK political situation, and the state of the UK and global economies.

Mr Lambert said: “I’m delighted to be visiting this part of the country, Teesside has developed into a dynamic part of the North East, and is home to an impressive array of international businesses. I’m looking forward to visiting some of them over the next few days and learning for myself about the challenges and opportunities presenting themselves.”

Whilst in the region, Mr Lambert will also be the headline speaker at the Teesside Business School lecture on 8 May.

He will speak about the role of globalisation in shaping the fortunes of the Tees Valley and the importance of ensuring that the UK offers an attractive fiscal and regulatory environment for international and indigenous investors.

Mr Lambert will also highlight the role higher level skills play in the UK’s international competitiveness and welcome the University’s collaboration with employers to ensure that the Teesside skills base is fit for the future.

Robin Bloom, Deputy Chair, CBI North East and Senior Partner, Dickinson Dees said: “As a Teessider, I am delighted to be welcoming Richard Lambert to Tees Valley, which is proving to be the powerhouse for the region’s economic growth in the process and energy sectors. Every day brings another good news story about more inward investment suggesting that whilst other parts of the UK may be feeling the economic pinch, the Tees Valley is riding a wave!”
