Funding boost for North East arts
A theatrical production through the eyes of a child, the Angel of the North 10-year birthday celebrations and a project exploring the pressures that women find themselves under to have the perfect life are amongst the 12 arts activities and artists that will share over £163,000 of Arts Council England, North East funding.
One of the successful recipients under the Grants for the Arts programme is Laura Lindow for her project Heartbreak Soup. This theatrical production will look at the realities of transplant operations and a family’s journey from diagnosis to recovery.
Laura Lindow said: “For the last two years I have been privileged to work as a clown doctor in a paediatric unit, home to children undergoing, amongst other procedures, heart and lung transplants. Heartbreak Soup is my response to this extraordinary world, through it I aim to explore truthfully the experience of young people undergoing transplant whilst providing an engaging, entertaining and moving theatrical experience for young audiences.”
The latest rounds of awards totals £163,845 for projects, including a late-night opening of cultural venues in Newcastle and Gateshead on Museums Night; re-working and regional tour of a play examiningissues including seeking asylum,  racism, homophobia, bereavement and teenage pregnancy; and support for a publishing firm to produce five additional novels.
