Newcastle firm has designs on ethical investment
A Newcastle interior design firm has used the first UK National Ethical Investment Week as the chance to begin investing in a North East-based fair trade movement.
Award-winning design consultancy Neil Wilson Design is the first company to sign up to co-operative lending society Shared Interest during the week-long event to encourage investment in environmentally or socially responsible causes.
Neil Wilson said: “I heard about Shared Interest’s work through a friend and really liked the idea of being able to invest money in the developing world. As a small business owner, it is great to be able to help other businesses, especially those in poorer communities overseas where it is tougher to survive commercially.
“It is amazing to think that the money I have invested is being lent out time and time again to countries in the developing world, helping them to access the fair trade market and get a fair price for their produce and goods.”
With its headquarters in Newcastle’s Groat Market, Shared Interest has regional offices in Costa Rica and Kenya to ensure its investment reaches the right people in Central and South America as well as Africa
