Last call for Biz Idol

A final call for entries for a competition to find the South Tyneside’s next big name in business is being made this week. The deadline is looming for wannabe entrepreneurs who have only four days to enter the Biz Idol competition.

Successful entrants will have just minutes to pitch their business ideas to a panel of high-profile judges for a chance to win a start-up prize package, including £2,000 in cash and a year’s free business accommodation provided by TEDCO in South Tyneside.

One of the judges of the competition, Derek Metcalfe, director of Horizonworks Ltd and vice-chairman of South Tyneside Business Forum, said: “This is the last call for people to enter this fantastic competition and we don’t want anyone to miss such a great opportunity to have the chance to see their business idea turn into reality with this excellent start-up prize. “We are looking forward to seeing all the exciting business ideas when we look at the entries and then getting to meet the people behind the ideas when they pitch to the panel.”

Inspired by TV shows Pop Idol and Dragons’ Den, Biz Idol, supported by South Tyneside Means Business, was launched to find new business talent and is open to anyone over the age of 18 wanting to start a business in South Tyneside.

The shortlisted entries will pitch to a panel of “friendly, but firm” judges and the winner will be announced at a ceremony at this year’s South Tyneside Enterprise Partnership (STEP) Awards.

To enter, fill in an online application form at www.southtynesidemeansbusiness.co.uk before 12 noon on Friday 6 June.
