Contract win brings jobs to Hartlepool
More than 300 jobs could be created at a North East construction yard with a contract win by Dutch offshore oil and gas engineering company Heerema. Heerema’s UK arm, based in Hartlepool, recently won a contract for the fabrication of the Production Sweetening deck and bridge for the Nexen Buzzard oilfield in the North Sea.
The work is due to start this June and finish in 2010. To complete the order, Heerema Hartlepool will increase its staff numbers from 120 to between 300 and 400. Recruitment has already started and the extra positions are expected to be filled within six months.
Frank Moran, Director of Heerema Hartlepool, said: “Our reputation for high quality workmanship, safe working and completion on schedule was a key factor in Nexen’s decision to award this prestigious follow-on work to the Hartlepool yard. “We are very proud to have won this work, which ensures that the expertise and tradition of major offshore platform construction continues in Hartlepool and the Tees Valley area into the future”.
“It is very important because there aren’t very many significant projects coming out of the North Sea oil and gas industry at the moment. This is one of the biggest oil fields to be discovered in the North Sea for 30 years.”
The PS deck has three deck levels and will have a length of 60 meters, a width of 36 meters and an overall height of 42 meters. The bridge, with a length of 80 metres, will connect the new facility to the existing Buzzard complex.
