Sunderland-London train service scaled back
A new train service traveling between the North East and London has been scaled back after the operator admitted to difficulties with the reliability of its fleet.
The daily Grand Central service starts at Sunderland and runs through Tees Valley and York en route to the capital. However the service, which started in December, has experienced a number of technical problems, resulting in the operator’s decision to introduce a contingency plan until further notice.
A spokesperson for the train operator said: “We have been experiencing some difficulties with our fleet reliability over recent weeks. This is in the main, due to a series of major component failures with the power car fleet. We are working with those responsible and other repairers to get the necessary work done as soon as is practical in order to improve the current situation.
“Therefore, we have had to take the decision to implement a contingency plan until further notice.”
Details of how this will affect the operator’s daily service can be found on the Grand Central website.
