Weekend of celebrations end with a bang

It was celebrations all round after two days of festivities at Newcastle University Business School last weekend. Saturday saw the school hosting a 25th anniversary celebration for its MBA course, whilst an explosive Sunday marked the first stage of development for its new headquarters.

Newcastle University marked the anniversary with a look back over the past 25 years. The event featured a presentation from US Economist Dr Ian Shepherdson and a panel discussion with Hugh Metcalf, Acting Deputy Director of the School, and senior professionals from the financial sector.

Over 50 people attended the occasion including two of the University’s first MBA graduates from the class of 1983 and Emeritus Professor Colin Gallagher who first started the programme.

Professor John Leopold, Acting Director of Newcastle University Business School said: “We are very proud of our heritage, being one of the first Universities in the region to provide the MBA programme is a true achievement. We are continually introducing new programmes and developing our courses to put the School at the forefront of pioneering education.

“Events like this strengthen our relationships with business by bringing our alumni and staff together, I hope that we will be in this position in another 25 years time with a new and groundbreaking programme.”

The second day of celebrations saw Sir Bobby Robson push the button to begin a series of explosions to demolish the former Newcastle and Scottish Brewery plant in order to make way for Newcastle University Business School’s new headquarters.
