Great Gusto puts restaurant in top 100

Newcastle’s ’Gusto Group’ have been named one of the top restaurant groups in the UK at an awards ceremony in London.

The Gusto group, which was founded by the De Giorgi family, owns ‘Secco’ and ‘Secco Ristorante Salentino’ on Pilgrim Street, which has been in operation for 36 years.

This week saw the publication of the 2008 Restaurant One Hundred (R100) list, a compilation made every year by Restaurant magazine - the Vogue of the restaurant world. The list names the top 100 restaurant groups in the UK and to thousands of restaurant operators whom are named on the list, it is like winning a gong.

Three other restaurants from the North East were mentioned on the list, but aside from these, the furthest north the list referred to was Sheffield - making this a great coup for the region.

Cristina De Giorgi, Director of Gusto UK says: “This is an honour for Gusto UK. We strive to offer the North East an outstanding restaurant group and work hard to compete with the industry’s top restaurant groups, the majority of which are based in London. As a family business, I am proud that we have achieved such an acclamation and look forward to being mentioned on the list next year.”
