Print firm makes its mark

A specialist printing firm is targeting further growth after moving into a state-of-the-art factory on Tyneside.

Harlow Printing, which primarily works with organisations within the health sector, has moved part of its operation into a modern unit at Simonside East Industrial Estate in South Shields after outgrowing its former home.

Gordon Parfitt, Financial Director of Harlow Printing, said: “The company has grown significantly in recent years and we needed additional offices and warehouse space to accommodate our print management business. We were struggling to find anywhere suitable in South Shields so we approached the local authority and then One NorthEast, who identified land which had the potential we were looking for.

“There’s no doubt this move and the assistance we received from the Agency was vital to our plans for future expansion. Without their help I’m certain we would have had to leave the area.”

To facilitate the move, the company has invested around £2m in the property and a further £250,000 on new equipment and machinery. An additional three members of staff have been employed and the company hopes to increase that over the coming months.

Kym Pears, Property Senior Specialist at One NorthEast, said: “Harlow Printing is a local company with its roots firmly in the region, so I’m really pleased that we’ve been able to assist them with land which has enabled them to meet their expansion needs.

“Simonside East Industrial Estate is now a thriving business complex, home to a number of local companies who have seen the benefit of locating there. It’s become a real hub of the community and provided a facility which was certainly needed in the area.”
