Teesside artist secures £3000

An artist from Middlesbrough has been granted £3000 of funding to develop her career. Hannah Campion secured the money from a-n, The Artists Information Company.

Campion, 26, began a two-month residency at the internationally renowned Gallerie Taksu in Kuala Lumpur in June. She will spend the money on a sustained mentoring programme from top artists, including fellow Middlesbrough-born William Tillyer, who is widely considered one of the UK’s best artists.

The mentors will offer professional critiques of her work, allowing Campion to move in different directions, including branching into sculptural paintings, which she will be showcasing in Singapore, Langkawi and Kuala Lumpur.

Campion has worked as a professional fine artist for five years since she graduated at Loughborough University. Although currently touring Asia, she often lectures at the University of Teesside.

She said: “I will now be able to benefit from serious critique from high profile artists and professional studio visits which will be the key to my success as I grow my fine art business here in the North East and also around the world.”
