Former minister addresses North East business
Minister turned celebrity Michael Portillo spoke in Newcastle on Tuesday, addressing the North East business community. The former Conservative leadership candidate spoke about life as a cabinet minister, and more lately, as a journalist.
Speaking at Mincoffs Solicitors’ ‘An audience with…’ event, at the Discovery Museum, Portillo gave a candid account of the Thatcher years and his work in the media making documentaries. Over 300 of the law firm’s clients and members heard the former Defence Secretary’s speech.
The senior partner of Mincoffs, Howard Gold, said: “It was great to hear from Michael Portillo, who exceeded our expectations as an engaging speaker. He gave us all his light-hearted views on Margaret Thatcher’s reign, ways to encourage young people into politics and his thoughts on the next election.
“He also related his experiences in making his television documentaries including a recent visit to death row in America and the experience of living as a single parent for a week. He was very entertaining and the event was a great success.”
