The cat's out of the Postie's bag
A woman has posted her cat almost 450 miles across Germany. The kitty, Janosch, climbed into a box filled with presents, which was then sent on a two-day journey north.
Janosch’s owner, Gitti Rauch, did not notice the cat when she sealed the parcel and sent it to her relatives. The cat is prone to wandering off for days at a time so she did not think anything of his disappearance.
Luckily, Janosch arrived in Dorsten unscathed. Mrs Rauch said: “I can understand though how he survived the journey without a scratch. He is a very special little cat. He likes to ride in cars, he likes boxes - and he never complains.”
Janosch is not the only animal to have been put in the mail. In 2006, two British students (who else?) were fined and banned from owning animals after they drunkenly put a hamster in an envelope and into a post box. The hamster, which was later named First Class, gnawed through the envelope and was spotted by a postal worker.
Royal Mail does, however, allow certain animals to use its services, including bees and worms.
