Bank's Mugabe mix-up
A London woman called Sam Mugabe had her wages frozen - because of sanctions against her namesake. The HSBC mistook Sam, 23, for a relative of Robert Mugabe and froze her £1,200 pay cheque, reports The Sun.
Her bosses at a media firm near her home in Camden, North London, thought it was a computer error so arranged for her to be paid again - only for the same thing to happen.
It was ten days before British citizen Sam - born in Zimbabwe but no relation to the dictator - got her money. She complained: “Mugabe is quite a common name in Zimbabwe.”
The HSBC has apologised.
