6m Brits unhappy at work
A third of British workers are dissatisfied with their jobs, according to a recent poll. The results of the survey found, to the surprise of very few people, that 6m UK residents feel extremely unhappy with their work on a daily basis.
Statistically, the happiest worker is a 55 year-old self-employed senior figure at the office of a small media company he / she has worked with for many years, based in Norwich. Radio DJs are the least discontented.
IT workers, on the other hand, are the most depressed. According to the research by The Vodafone Group Foundation, 30 year-old IT middle-managers at privately owned, middle-sized, Plymouth-based companies that they’ve been with for five years are the least happy with their jobs.
There was a point to the research, however - the Vodafone Group Foundation has published the results to mark the launch of their World of Difference campaign. The campaign aims to find four people to leave their current jobs for one year of charity-based work. The chosen four will work with a charity of their choice, be it in their own community, elsewhere in the UK, or overseas. They will be paid up to £25,000.
The conclusions drawn from the study are that increased salaries, recognition from colleagues and seniors, as well as more annual leave, would make their work lives more pleasant.
