Architects rewarded for artist collaboration
North East architects, Mosedale Gillatt Architects (MGA) received a certificate for its investment in art last week.
The Sponsors Club for Arts and Business rewarded MGA directors Tim Mosedale and Jenny Gillatt for their work with artist Jill Smith – a photography commission to celebrate ten years of MGA’s creative projects. The images – one of which was recently awarded a Fujifilm Merit Award – formed part of a series of photographs entitled ‘Outside In’. The project culminated in an exhibition at the Northern Print centre for contemporary printmaking, where the building itself was designed by MGA and featured in the exhibition.
Tim Mosedale, Director of MGA, said: “It was lovely to be invited to the ceremony and receive the certificate in recognition of our work with Jill. We found the photography project really inspiring and have since commissioned another artist - Angela Hughes - to deliver a series of drawing classes for our staff, encouraging the use of traditional skills and lateral thinking.
“As an organisation, we have definitely seen the benefits of investing in the arts and having the support of the Sponsors Club has been invaluable. The presentation was a good opportunity to see the many different ways in which businesses can benefit from collaborating with the arts sector, and we look forward to working with the Sponsors Club again in the not too distant future.”
Jane Tarr, Manager of the Sponsors Club for Arts & Business said: “It’s very satisfying to see how organisations such as Mosedale Gillatt Architects are re-investing in the arts following a successful arts partnership. There are so many benefits that businesses can tap into through arts projects in terms of marketing opportunities, brand association, community and staff investment and client hospitality, and we hope to reward many more new businesses over the coming months.”
