Rallying call to region's business leaders

Business leaders in the North East have urged the owners of other small and medium firms to join them to help fight for fairer legislation.

Members of the Federation of Small Businesses in the area are holding a special meeting that will outline how the FSB lobbies policy makers to make running a business easier.

David Bonner, Chairman of the South Tyneside branch of the FSB, said: “The FSB is the largest business organisation in Britain, so anyone who is a member will become part of a group that has a growing voice in the corridors of power.

“You may be self-employed or have a small business and feel your individual views won’t be listened to. However, by joining together and increasing the number of voices, all small business owners can make a collective noise and a difference in both national and local government.”

Mr Bonner, who owns a specialist collectors’ shop in South Shields, added that the meeting at The Lakeside in Fellgate would give guests the chance to talk to other local business owners.

He said: “It will be a great chance for people to network with others and talk about their business. Owning a business is not easy, especially in the current financial situation of a slowing economy. “We will also be outlining other benefits of being a member of the FSB, such as free legal protection and advise on increasing new laws.”

The event takes place on Monday 21 July at 7.15pm. For further information, contact Mr Bonner on 0771 309 1523.
