Stockton glass artists bring sculpture to life
A Stockton-based company has brought life to a sculpture near a new North East business park.
Creative Glass provided the glass faces for ‘The Delegation’, a sculpture of seven towering figures at Rainton Bridge South Business Park, just off the A690 near Houghton-Le-Spring.
The Delegation, designed by Swedish artist and former Sunderland University MA student Tord Kjellstrom, is made up of seven steel figures - the highest standing 7.9m tall - capped with glass light boxes which Creative Glass manufactured using techniques such as water jet cutting, polishing and UV glue.
Tony Campbell, Creative Glass MD, said: “The Delegation has been a fantastic project to be involved in. Tord is a top artist and designer so we were delighted to work with him to produce something striking and unique for the business park. The sculpture really comes into its own at night when the light boxes illuminate the eyes on the faces.”
Sunderland City Council commissioned the work after a competition involving members of the Cohesion Glassmakers Network, of which Creative Glass and Mr Kjlellstrom are both members.
