The Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) has confirmed it will be attending the Partners4Automotive conference in September. The conference’s aim is for over 100 experts and business leaders to discuss alternative transport fuels.

The Institute of Automotive and Manufacturing Advanced Practice (AMAP), at the University of Sunderland, has organised the event. The fuels they will be discussing alternative fuel methods, including biofuels, natural gas and hydrogen. Research is ongoing into all of these areas, and this year CPI became the first - and, to date, only - organisation to be a full member of the research grouping of the EU’s Framework Seven Programme (FP7).

FP7 is a €940m project researching the use of fuel cells as a cleaner, less emitting alternative to conventional energy sources.

Dr Jon Helliwell, project manager of CPI’s Fuel Application Facility said: “We launched Fuel Cells North East in September 2007, a business cluster dedicated to creating an effective supply chain of organisations that have either direct or indirect links to fuel cells. CPI is delighted to be working with AMAP for this event which cements this region’s position at the forefront of developments in fuel cell technology.”
