Enterprise charity on target to reach pledge goal

Young Enterprise North East is reporting that it is ‘on track’ to reach its personal target of getting more businesses involved with enterprise education in the North East.

The charity launched its One Day appeal in April, setting itself a target of signing up one business supporter every working day throughout its 18 month campaign.

The One Day call to action asks employers the question ‘what could you give up in one day?’, and outlines 10 pledges to pick from, such as giving up one day’s profit, one day of an employee’s time to volunteer in a school, or one day for a student to visit their workplace. So far more than 200 pledges have been made since the campaign’s launch, with 68 business supporters signing up to help deliver educational enterprise programmes in classrooms across the region.

YENE chief executive Catherine Marchant said: “We are right on track to meet our target of signing up one business each working day to working with our young people on raising aspirations, however it is still vital that businesses continue to get behind us to ensure that the campaign is a success and we meet our final goal.“Any business large or small can be involved, as they can pick and choose their level of commitment depending on their size.

“We have been overwhelmed with the support that the One Day campaign has received from the local business community. Collectively we are all helping to increase the potential of the economic well being of the North East.”

Currently only 23% of YENE’s business volunteers are from Tees Valley companies, and the organisation would like to hear from any Tees Valley companies interested in joining the campaign. For more information visit www.onedaycampaign.org.
