Tanked up
Ananova.com reports on a German family’s purchase of a six-tonne tank to use for shopping and day trips.
Dad Joachim Schoeneich has fitted a baby seat to the British-built Fox tank to accommodate two-year-old son Paul.
The tank, which is armed with a disabled 30mm gun and has three-inch thick armour plating, has caused a few parking problems but in the main has proved a successful family run-around: “We take the tank to go shopping and on little trips,” laughed Joachim, from Neu Anspach.
The only drawback is fuel consumption as the £24,000 tank’s 4.2 litre engine struggles to better five miles per gallon. “But the driving experience makes up for it,” Joachim added, enthusiastically.
