North East manufacturer scales new heights in international trade
A North East company specialising in the manufacture of hiking and trekking poles has seen overseas sales climb with the help of UK Trade & Investment’s Passport to Export programme.
Mountain King Ltd manufactures hiking and trekking poles in Newcastle. The business signed up to the Passport initiative in order to explore potential markets and gain an insight into the best way to access them.
Simon King, Director of Mountain King Ltd, explains: “Passport to Export enabled us to attend the major European trade show in Germany leading to us supplying poles to Norway and identifying opportunities as far away as Nepal, Korea and Patagonia.”
John Doolan, one of UK Trade & Investment’s International Trade Advisers, said: “Through Passport we’ve been able to work closely with Mountain King to identify the best markets to target and offer advice and support in accessing them.
“Passport is unique as it offers a tailor-made package of support that can meet each company’s individual needs. An International Trade Adviser works closely with the company to draw up an export plan andidentify the support needed to implement that plan.
“This approach is already starting to pay dividends for Mountain Kingand many other companies and we would encourage others - whether new or experienced exporters - to get in touch to find out how UK Trade & Investment can help them succeed overseas.”
