Liberty director to talk human rights at ethics forum event
Newcastle University Business School Ethics Forum has announced Shami Chakrabarti, Director of Liberty as the guest speaker for its third event.
‘In Conversation With…Shami Chakrabarti’ is to be held in September at Newcastle University. As Director of Liberty (The Council for Civil Liberties) since 2003, Chakrabarti has become a regular face in the media and is known for her outspoken views on human rights.
Themed around ‘The Business of Human Rights: How does the rule of law impact your business?’ the event will explore topics such as privacy of communications, summary extradition, privacy and the war on terror.
Kay Jones, Director of Marketing & Development at Newcastle University Business School said: “Ethical behaviour is something we actively encourage at Newcastle University Business School. When we first established the Ethics Forum it was always on the top of our agenda to feature high profile guest speakers who can really bridge the gap between academia and regional business and get people thinking.
“We are privileged to have an established name like Shami Chakrabarti take part in our next event and we will continue to push the ethics agenda, placing the Business School as leaders not only in business theory but in business practice.”
The event follows Management Decision Making which took place in April and featured Sir Robert Worcester from Mori and Sir George Russell, former chairman of ITN.
