No time for holidays
Pressures at work are preventing small business owners from taking a much-needed summer holiday, according to a new report. The survey, conducted by communications firm Unicom, revealed that 42% of small business owners had discounted the possibility of taking a break from work.
Of the entrepreneurs intending to take a break, 39% said that it was unlikely to be when they really wanted, or needed, to go. This included times convenient for their families, such as school holidays.
Chris Earle, Unicom’s operations director said: “Small business owners and managers are clearly working harder than ever to weather the current economic storm. “Just when many of them really need a break they find they can’t take one.”
The survey suggested that the difficult economic climate is continuing to increase the pressure on businesses, with many owners being forced to raise prices to keep their businesses afloat.
The survey follows reports from Lloyds TSB that small business owners are suffering from increased stress due to an average 50 hour working week, with the average entrepreneur only taking 15 days holiday a year.
