One final look before QE2 ascends new throne
A Tyne based cruise operator is cashing in on the arrival of a world famous cruise liner when it makes its last one day only visit to the North East this October. River Escapes is letting people get up close and personal with the QE2 on Wednesday 8 October in a last chance to view the ship before she retires to Dubai.
River Escapes managing director David Fozard said: “We are hosting specially commissioned cruises to sail past the QE2 when she arrives on the Tyne for one day only.
“As well as offering a great vantage point for visitors to take in the QE2 in style. The cruise will be a fun and educational day out for the whole family, as our knowledgeable tour guides will talk through the famous history that surrounds the vessel.
“This will be the last time we’ll see the QE2 in Tyneside before she’s decommissioned and retires to Dubai later this year. As one of the wonders of the maritime world, and one of the world’s most famous liners, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity that shouldn’t be missed.”
The QE2, which was launched by the Queen in 1967, will then depart on its final ocean cruise before it becomes a luxury floating hotel on the Palm Jumeirah development in Dubai having been sold to the Dubai World company in June last year.
