North East women get back into business when the kids go back to school
With only days of the school holidays remaining, women across the region are being encouraged to think about getting back into business after their children have gone back to school.
North East mums can now learn how to succeed in business by attending one of Business Link’s workshops, designed for women who have a great business idea.
Terri-Ann Hall, a young mum from East Durham, set up beauty therapy business, Venus Envy, nearly three years ago and looks forward to expanding over the next year. Having previously worked in a salon, Terri-Ann learned how to run her own successful business at the same time as caring for her young son.
Terri-Ann said: “I had always fancied working for myself, so after I had my son, I decided to take the plunge and use my skills to become a mobile nail technician. I sought advice on all aspects of setting up my business and didn’t have a clue when I first started out.
“I was a bit worried about how I would juggle a business with looking after my son, but along with the support of my partner, being my own boss meant that I could dictate when and how often I worked and it has turned out really well.”
Chris Simpson, account manager at Business Link, said: “Business Link works with many women like Terri-Ann to help grow their ideas into a sustainable business. We know that mothers can be very busy so our workshops will help them to multi-task and really make a go of starting-up.
“We believe there are hundreds, if not thousands, of women out there in the North East with great ideas for starting their own businesses, but don’t know where to turn for advice.”
The start-up workshops will focus on all areas of business, providing access to practical advice, support and information.
