Automotive conference gets agency backing

An international automotive conference is coming to the North East after receiving backing from the regional development agency.

The theme of the two day event, which will be held at the University of Sunderland’s Tom Cowie Campus at St Peters, on 17 and 18 September, is ‘Alternative Fuel Technologies for vehicles and transport systems.’

The event will include a number of presentations by leading experts as well as seminars and workshops on key topics such as storage and distribution, environmental issues and engine development and maintenance.

Sean Long, One North East Energy and Environment Senior Specialist, said: “We are delighted to be supporting the Partners4Automotive 2008 event. This will provide a great opportunity for businesses both nationwide and internationally to understand the development of low carbon and alternative fuel technologies within the region.

“The conference will provide businesses with the opportunity to network with suppliers involved in supply chain activities, and will help them to understand future direction for this growing sector.”

Phil Eadon, project director for Partners4Automotive 2008, said: “Alternative Fuel Technologies have the potential to create major job opportunities in the future. Those firms that get involved and understand the issues and challenges that lie ahead will be better able to develop the skills and experience that will be needed to win them new orders in the future.

“Normally an event like this takes place in London or in the USA, but with the RDA’s support it is now going to be on their doorstep so there are no excuses for local companies not getting involved. It will also be a great way of showing off the true capability of the North East as a business location for automotive engineering.”

Businesses wanting to attend must register their business details via the event website - www.partners4automotive2008.co.uk. For more information on the event please call Phil Eadon on 0191 415 7340.
