North East chilli fans challenged

A new food business based in Darlington is proving a hot favourite with chilli fans after challenging them to try a sauce imported from America which is hotter than anything produced in the UK.

Nicole Race, who set up New Tastes less than a year ago, says the Hot Garlic Sauce, made by a company called Pain Is Good, has quickly become one of her best sellers.

“It is really hot so you only need the tiniest drop,” she said. “Serious chilli fans know about Scoville ratings and this sauce is rated at 2,500 to 3,500 units. I have wanted to bring it to the UK for quite a while and it is definitely appealing to people who like a challenge!”

Nicole is determined to give her customers new food experiences. She spent two years planning New Tastes and scouring the world for original companies selling innovative and unusual foods.

After making appearances at food fairs from Northumberland to York, Nicole has now started New Tastes Events. Held in people’s homes, the evening includes plenty of tasters and the host receives a selection of products as commission on sales. Nicole is currently holding events within a 40-mile radius of Darlington but aims to build up a team of people operating in a much wider area.
