Capitalising on the low carbon economy
Manufacturers from across the North East are attending a summit this year to explore the opportunities presented by a low carbon economy.
Opportunities for manufacturers to profit from the move to a low carbon economy were highlighted in a report complied earlier this year by the manufacturers’ organisation EEF.
Tony Sarginson, Regional Manager at EEF, said: “It is clear that moving to a low carbon economy will create significant business opportunities for the region’s manufacturers. However, the only way we can exploit them is if companies are quick to identify the opportunities and move swiftly to take advantage of them.
“Our ‘Delivering the low carbon economy’ summit is designed to speed up the process by bringing together the key players, support organisations and funding providers so our manufacturers are ready to exploit the opportunities.”
The summit will feature manufacturing and energy experts from EEF and the Technology Strategy Board. Support organisations One NorthEast and the Carbon Trust will discuss the range of financial support available and how to access it.
Firms will also have the chance to speak to the support organisations and experts at the ‘support surgery’, where private meeting rooms are available for one-to-one discussions.
EEF’s CEO, Gilbert Toppin, said: “Manufacturers in the North East have proven that the UK, and the North East, can lead the way in low carbon technology. The involvement of the support organisations One NorthEast, The Carbon Trust and ourselves is extremely important to help manufacturers invest in developing new products and technology.”
The ‘Delivering the low carbon economy’ event is being held at St James’ Park on 26 November 2008. More information can be found at www.eef.org.uk/lowcarbon.
