Australian journalist makes special trip to flood hit Morpeth

The Deputy Editor of one of Australia’s leading travel supplements has made a special trip to flood-hit Morpeth in Northumberland to see for himself what is being done to get the town back on his feet.

John Wright is a writer for the Escape Travel supplement which is featured in some of the largest newspapers in Australia including The Sunday Telegraph and The Courier Mail and has a circulation of more 1.5million every week.

John is in North East England on a press trip which has been organised to promote North East England overseas.

As well as visiting regional attractions such as The Alnwick Garden, Hartlepool Maritime Experience, Durham City and NewcastleGateshead, John also took time out to visit Morpeth and find out more about the work being done to support businesses in the town.

John said: “When I heard what had happened in Morpeth I was keen to see the town for myself as part of my trip to North East England. Despite the fact that a lot of businesses and residents have been affected by the floods there is still a real buzz in the town and it’s a lovely place to visit.

“I have had a great time in North East England, there are so many exciting things to see and do. I have been particularly impressed with the standards of the accommodation and with the local produce that is available across the region.”

In response to the devastating floods at the beginning of the month a package of support was created through local authorities and business support groups.
