North East stories to go nationwide

North East stories are to hit national TV screens once again through a partnership between the North East regional screen agency and a national broadcaster.

Northern Film & Media and Community Channel have helped to develop seven documentaries as part of the £45,000 Capture 2008 scheme. The scheme was aimed at documenting stories of different North East communities and sharing these stories with the rest of the UK.

The seven films will be premiered at the Baltic Gallery of Contemporary Art on Friday 26 September 2008.

Adam Perry, Controller of Community Channel, says: “Capture 08 has produced perhaps the most diverse range of films of the three-year collaboration between Community Channel and Northern Film & Media. “All the films make very rewarding and entertaining viewing.

“Northern Film & Media’s commitment to encouraging innovation in story telling, and to continually refreshing Capture has proven the backbone to the success of the scheme, the films, and the development of the film makers.”

Lisa Laws, Creative Communities Manager, said: “It’s a pleasure to contribute to the rich tradition of documentary film making through a scheme such as Capture 08 - it is a tradition that the North East has always and continues to excel in.

“We’ve consulted widely with talent spotters in London and worked with FourDocs to plug the film makers into broadcasters and prepare them for festivals and the market. “In the end it’s about equipping our film makers with the skills needed to be successful in the new media market.”

All seven films are due for broadcast on Community Channel next year. For more information on the films, visit the Capture 08 micro site at www.northernmedia.org/community.
